MAPPA's series adapts Akutami's manga arc by arc, and the adaptation is most of why the manga became a global property rather than a well-regarded Jump serial. What the animation adds is motion: cursed energy is drawn as a static impression on the page and animated as something with weight and direction, and the fights are choreographed rather than illustrated.
