Disney's film adapts Dodie Smith's novel about Pongo and Perdita, whose puppies are stolen by Cruella de Vil to be made into a fur coat, and the dogs of England who help rescue them and dozens more. It simplifies the book, which gives Pongo two companions, into a single couple.
