Spider-Verse influenced The Mitchells vs. The Machines

Into the Spider-Verse broke the assumption that a computer-animated feature should look photoreal, and The Mitchells vs. The Machines is the next film from the same producers to take the opening. What carries over is a set of techniques rather than a style: hand-drawn marks laid over rendered geometry, deliberate line boil, animating on twos so the movement reads as drawn, and graphic elements from another medium pushed into the frame. Spider-Verse used comic-book halftone and panels; Mitchells uses doodles, emoji and internet ephemera. The permission is the inheritance.
