The evidence
Rob Marshall's film adapts the Kander and Ebb musical about Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly, two murderesses in 1920s Chicago who turn their trials into celebrity. It stages most of the songs as fantasies in Roxie's head, and won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
