デスノート (Death Note) influenced Death Note

Madhouse's 37-episode series adapts Ohba and Obata's manga chapter by chapter, ending where the manga ends. It is an unusually faithful adaptation of an unusually hard book to adapt: almost all the action is two people thinking, and the anime solves it the way the manga does, with held frames, internal monologue and lighting. The potato-chip scene is the famous example of the series making a page of interior calculation into three minutes of television. The one real departure is the ending, which stages Light's collapse differently.
