What influenced Broken Sword

The works this one is recorded as drawing on.

Charles Cecil has cited Herge as the reference point for Broken Sword's look and shape, and the game's Paris is drawn in ligne claire: flat colour, clean uniform outlines, carefully researched real locations. The story is a Tintin story. An ordinary young man with no special skills stumbles into a conspiracy in a European capital, follows it through a secret order with medieval roots, and travels between real countries solving it by asking questions and paying attention. Filed MEDIUM: a stated visual and tonal debt rather than borrowed material.

About the work

Broken Sword

This is a series.

The original 1996 Broken Sword: The Shadow of the Templars was titled Circle of Blood in North America. The player assumes the role of George Stobbart, an American tourist in Paris, as he attempts to unravel a deep conspiracy involving a sinister cult and a hidden treasure, seeing him travel to various locations around Europe and the Middle East. The game's storyline was conceived to feature a serious tone and heavily influenced by research on Knights Templar by Cecil, but was also interlaced with humor and graphics in the style of classic animated films.
