The series adapts the Corey novels book by book, with the authors in the writers' room. Ty Franck and Daniel Abraham wrote for the show throughout, which is about as close as an adaptation gets to being made by its source. Season one is Leviathan Wakes and the run keeps going in order. What carries: the Rocinante crew, Miller and the Julie Mao case, the protomolecule, Avasarala, and the thing the books are actually about, which is Belters as a people the inner planets have engineered into dependence. The visible changes are structural rather than substantive. Avasarala and Bobbie are pulled forward from later books into season one so the political and Martian threads run alongside the Ceres story instead of after it.
