Burton's film is the live-action remake of Disney's 1941 animation, one of the run of remakes Disney made of its own library through the 2010s. What survives: the elephant born with oversized ears, the separation from his mother, Mrs Jumbo's rampage and chaining, the feather, and the discovery that he can fly. Filed LOW on fidelity. The 1941 film is 64 minutes told almost entirely from the animals' side, with Timothy Q. Mouse as Dumbo's only ally and the crows carrying the last act. The remake hands the story to a human family, invents the Medici circus and a corporate villain, and drops both the crows and the pink elephants sequence. The premise is the same; very little else is.
