AdaptationHIGH

The animated series adapts Brian Jacques's Redwall novels, beginning with the 1986 first book and taking one per season. It keeps what the books are known for: an abbey of peaceable mice defended by a novice who turns out to be the hero, an outsider army of rats and stoats, and the food. Jacques wrote the books for pupils at a school for blind children he read to, which is why the meals are described at such length, and the series keeps them.

About the work

Redwall

This is a series.

A quest to recover a legendary lost weapon by bumbling young apprentice monk, mouse Matthias. Redwall Abbey, tranquil home to a community of peace-loving mice, is threatened by Cluny the Scourge savage bilge rat warlord and his battle-hardened horde. But the Redwall mice and their loyal woodland friends combine their courage and strength. The books are primarily aimed at pre- to early adolescents. There have been 22 novels and two picture books published. The twenty-second, and final, novel, The Rogue Crew, was posthumously released on 3 May 2011, almost three months after Jacques' death on 5 February. A new Redwall book, The Orphans of Mossflower, will be published on 7 September 2027, 16 years after Jacques' death.
