Rango

Gore Verbinski built Rango's plot on Chinatown: in a desert town running out of water, a newcomer uncovers a scheme by the mayor, an old tortoise modelled on John Huston's Noah Cross, to control the water and profit from the land.

Rango meets the Spirit of the West, a poncho-wearing gunslinger drawn as Clint Eastwood's Man with No Name from Leone's Dollars films, who tells him no man can walk out on his own story. The film's showdowns and music borrow from Leone throughout. Filed LOW: homage rather than structure.

A chameleon lost in the Mojave desert finds a town of desert animals dying of thirst, and the plot is about who controls the water in a land without rain.
