InfluenceMEDIUM

James Wan has cited the 1970s possession films as the register he wanted, and The Conjuring is built to be taken for one of them: period setting, unhurried camera, almost no gore, and specialists called in to a family home. The Exorcist established the shape the whole sub-genre still uses, a domestic crisis escalated to a rite, and the claim of a true case underneath it.

About the work

The Conjuring

This is a series. Set in the The Conjuring Universe universe.

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga star as Ed and Lorraine Warren, paranormal investigators and authors associated with prominent cases of haunting. Their purportedly real-life reports inspired The Amityville Horror story and the associated film franchise. The Warrens come to the assistance of the Perron family, who experienced increasingly disturbing events in their newly occupied farmhouse in Rhode Island in 1971.
