Tolkien was inspired by Eddison's vision of a fully realized secondary world and elevated, mythic style. The Lord of the Rings ultimately took fantasy in a different direction by grounding its epic adventure in richer moral themes, linguistic depth, and more relatable characters.
Lewis was one of Eddison's greatest champions. While Narnia itself doesn't closely resemble The Worm Ouroboros, Lewis's respect for Eddison reinforced his belief that fantasy could be serious literature and is part of his foundation into creating secondary fantasy worlds.
