InfluenceMEDIUM

Alan Moore named Orwell among his influences in "Behind the Painted Smile", his essay on writing V for Vendetta. The comic's near-future Britain is a fascist state of surveillance cameras and listening devices whose leader worships a computer, and its resistance begins, as Winston's does, with one person refusing it.

About the work

V for Vendetta

A fascist Britain has survived a nuclear war by putting everyone it disliked in camps, and one man in a Guy Fawkes mask sets about dismantling it, killing the officials who ran the camp he escaped from. He takes in a teenage girl and then imprisons and tortures her himself to free her of fear, which the book presents as the cost rather than the triumph.
