Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's rock opera tells the last week of Jesus's life as the Gospels record it, from the entry into Jerusalem through the Last Supper, Gethsemane and the trial before Pilate to the crucifixion, largely from the point of view of Judas.
Hair brought a rock score to Broadway in 1968, and Jesus Christ Superstar followed it there in 1971 as a rock opera. The Broadway production of Superstar was directed by Tom O'Horgan, who had directed Hair. MEDIUM: a debt of form and of production, not of story.
