呪術廻戦 (Jujutsu Kaisen)

MAPPA's series adapts Akutami's manga arc by arc, and the adaptation is most of why the manga became a global property rather than a well-regarded Jump serial. What the animation adds is motion: cursed energy is drawn as a static impression on the page and animated as something with weight and direction, and the fights are choreographed rather than illustrated. Gojo's Hollow Purple and the Shibuya arc are the usual examples. The story, the characters and the rules are all the manga's, which is where a claim about what influenced Jujutsu Kaisen belongs.

Gege Akutami has named the big Jump series of the 2000s as what he grew up on, Naruto among them, and Jujutsu Kaisen is built out of their furniture: a school that trains and ranks its students, a cursed power inside the protagonist that everyone else is afraid of, a sealed monster with its own personality, and a teacher who is both the strongest character and an unserious one.
