AdaptationHIGH

Robert Wise's film adapts the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical about Maria and the von Trapp family, keeping its songs and adding two new ones, "I Have Confidence" and "Something Good", while moving much of the action out of the stage's rooms and onto the Alps and the streets of Salzburg.

About the work

The Sound of Music

A novice is sent from her abbey to look after seven children in Salzburg, marries their widowed father, and the family walks out over the mountains when the Anschluss comes. Shot on location in Austria, it was the most successful film in the world for five years, and it is the version almost everyone means when they name the title.
